"There really is such a thing as beginner's luck," insists Ken Holcomb, "and I have the buttons to prove it!" In December 1998, Ken bought his first detector, planning to scan an old plantation site he owns. Over the years, he'd occasionally found fragments from its past, so he felt confident that something of interest would turn up. "But what lay ahead was beyond my wildest dreams!" he recalls. "The first day alone I found three Georgia Military Institute cadet buttons, and eventually seven more." All of the scarce GMI buttons (Albert's SU 128 and SU 130) were recovered from an area which once served as a Confederate training camp, along with numerous other items from the same era. Don't miss Ken's story, "Right on the Button," beginning on page 56. |
