| Description |
"I have a passion for beach and water detecting," confesses John B. Ray, "and one Sunday last July it was 'way too strong to resist!" Beach officials weren't as enthusiastic about the way the day was going, and had already posted "Closed" signs when John arrived. A thunderstorm was brewing, and they weren't about to let swimmers or anyone else frolic with lightning flickering on the horizon. John left to tend to some weekend chores, then returned to the beach and waited. After about an hour, it was opened, and he dashed toward the water, knowing that any moment the distant rumbling might bring out the "Closed" signs again. "I guess if this were a story of the 1999 Mets, we'd be down one run, with one strike left," he wryly remarks, "but it didn't happen that way. I'd been lucky, finding some coins and a couple of earrings, and then Bingo! A yelp from my detector, a swipe and slosh of the scoop, and there was a man's diamond ring!" The ring has seven .10 carat diamonds channel-set in a 3.10 dwt. 14K gold band, and an appraised value of $1,000. No wonder John's been detecting up a storm! |
