The art of treasure hunting |
| Description |
"The art of treasure hunting" proved to be more than a mere expression for detectorist Sergei Teplyakov. Probably the last thing he expected to find at a rural homesite was an exquisite bronze sculpture by the French artist Louis Auguste Moreau, but there it was! Subsequent research identified the figure as Psyche, a maiden from Greek mythology, and dated the work to 1882. Sergei's find, a reproduction produced by Aizelin and made by Ferdinand Barbedienne, also dates from the late 19th century. So far, he hasn't been able to answer the question of how or why it ended up in such an unlikely location, but somehow that only enhances the beauty and mystery of the lovely lady in bronze.
