The old ferry crossing on a South Carolina river had yielded musketballs, flat buttons, shoe buckles, and other artifacts attesting to its Colonial past. Spanish silver had been found there, too- reales all dated in the 1700s. Nevertheless, Ronald H. Willmann must have been caught a bit off guard when his detector locked onto an 18th century British gold coin! Dated 1751, the superbly preserved George II guinea was probably a bitter loss for its owner nearly two and a half centuries ago. But whatever the story behind it may be, one thing's certain: for Ronald, it had a very happy ending!
