Nothing travels faster than good news on the relic hunting hot line, and once the word was out about Lester Girlinghouse's $15,000 Hessian belt plate, other alert searchers began scouring the Louisiana parish where it had been found. One of them was Darryl Smith. Okay, maybe it was a long shot, but at least Lester's luck proved it wasn't impossible. And if lightning didn't strike twice, at least this time it hit pretty close! Sure enough, Darryl came up with a Hessian plate, too. Due to heavy oxidation and other damage, it wasn't a twin in condition or value to the other one; but for sheer out-of-the-ground excitement, it packed about the same wallop... and $3,500 isn't a bad day's pay!
