The massive timepiece is in need of major restoration. |
| Description |
"You won't find anything here, mister!" Well, Ed Ruff had heard that before, and he wasn't buying it this time, either. Still, the can-size signal near an old tenement building didn't sound very encouraging; and even after he probed 6" and saw that it was a watch, he didn't get too excited. Probably a toy or a cheapie, he thought. But then he hefted it, opened the case, and saw a bold "18K" mark inside! Engraved "L'Aiglon - Ancre de Precision " - "The Eagle - Anchor of Precision"- the massive timepiece is in need of major restoration. However, the handsome case alone is worth far more than bullion value. "It's my favorite find," Ed remarks, "and I wouldn't trade it for a brand-new Rolex! Well...maybe." By the way, you'll want to read his story about it, "On the Watch," in Silver & Gold 1997.
