Regimental belt plate from the Revolutionary War |
| Description |
In 1999, Lester Girlinghouse was literally a winner from day one! On January 1, he headed out in search of the year's first relics- and, as it turned out, one of the year's best- a Hessian regimental belt plate from the Revolutionary War, one of only two then known to exist. Almost overnight, Lester's phone was ringing off the wall with calls from astounded academics and collectors; and as a result, he soon pocketed the highest price ever paid for an 18th century brass buckle. A few months later, W&ET revealed the remarkable history and drama behind the plate, in Don T. Chamberlain's June '99 exclusive, "Found! $15,000 Hessian Buckle." Needless to say, for Lester it was a story with a very happy ending! |
