Even after all those years, it still makes quite an impression! Found at a War of 1812 skirmish site on the Niagara Frontier, this late 18th century wax seal means more to Ronald and Theresa Beck than the many military artifacts they've recovered. "It makes them all seem trivial compared to a soldier's personal effects," Ronald explains. Made of brass and gold, the seal has a finely engraved glass matrix depicting a gentleman in period clothing, resting on a pillar. Examined by an appraiser at an event sponsored by a regional historical society, it was described as being of "museum quality" and assigned a value of $200, with the caveat that it might well bring even more from the right collector.
