  1. It's amazing how much history comes from just a name...

Thanks! I was amazed at how much local connection this guy had. All from a name.
  2. It's amazing how much history comes from just a name...

This isn't "today", so if the post needs to be moved, so be it. A few weeks ago, I was digging (with permission) on a property located on the Lehigh University campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. According to my research, the house I was at was built after 1874. I'd found quite a few...
  3. 🥇 BANNER Exceedingly rare Caribbean Countermarked Silver Coin Found (1 of 3 known)!

Agreed - since it's a coin I would send it to PCGS; let them slab it and add it to their catalog. Maybe include a packet (with sources) on the research you did. After you get it slabbed, then maybe send info to DNW or the author of the article Bramblefind found, alerting them to a fourth...
  4. I thought it was a trigger guard, but maybe not?

I'm inclined to agree. Someone I work with says it's cast brass from a mold, based on the seam on the underside. Could it be a vintage throttle lever to something?
  5. I thought it was a trigger guard, but maybe not?

Yeah I'm at a loss too, and no one in ID ME on Facebook seems to know either. I found it at the edge of a cornfield, if that helps any.
  6. I thought it was a trigger guard, but maybe not?

Did some electrolysis last night to clean off the "rivets", to find they are actually threaded bolts. Also, there appears to be a seam of some sorts on the underside.
  7. I thought it was a trigger guard, but maybe not?

Brass, whatever it is. I swear I've seen this pattern before but can't place it. No apparent identifying marks.
  8. Found a WW2 plane "crash", rifle part, bullet game token?

I got the impression that Hubley made their own plane that was a mixture of a P-40, P-47, and F4U. So it may have elements of a few in it.
  9. Found a WW2 plane "crash", rifle part, bullet game token?

Ok! I was having a hard time matching it to a pic. That's why I share online, someone always knows :D
  10. Found a WW2 plane "crash", rifle part, bullet game token?

Here's a pic of the figurine I beheaded lol
  11. Found a WW2 plane "crash", rifle part, bullet game token?

Found a WW2 plane "crash", rifle part, bullet game token? Went back to a site I hit once last year for my second 2016 hunt. Great day. Found a brass whatsit I know I've seen before; some say trigger guard piece, others say butt plate. I think it's too small to be a butt...
  12. First hunt of the season "rescues" antique fire truck stuff

Thanks so much, THAT is exactly the sort of info I was hoping for! Are these bumper badges worth anything? EDIT: Just ran a few Google searches for "antique fire dept bumper badge" and the like, didn't really find anything similar. Any idea for a better search string?
  13. First hunt of the season "rescues" antique fire truck stuff

Took a hiatus bc of a few keyboard warriors last year. Plus there's not much to dig in Pennsylvania in the winter, as the ground is like cement. You'll probably see more of me this year as I have some goals to shoot for in terms of permissions. Someone suggested that these markers can be worth...
  14. First hunt of the season "rescues" antique fire truck stuff

Here are the pics. Dunno why they didn't upload the first time.
