  4. Where is gold deposited downstream of abandoned bridge support/pier?

Thank You for the info!! The water has caused a V-shaped deposit around the pier-the front, leading edge being the point of the V and the "legs" of the V are beside and downstream of the pier. What area would you dredge first?

  8. Where is the "Gold Line" when stream takes a "U Turn?"

Water is standing in both oxbows in one aerial photo from 2004. The current channel was muddy in the pic. The older, outer oxbow is very shallow, but holding water when pic taken.

Could there be some formation underground that is making the creek make such a sharp turn?
  10. Where is the "Gold Line" when stream takes a "U Turn?"

The water current is relatively slow now. There is a dam controlling the water flow about 20 miles upstream. On satillite views of the bend, there are two more filled in "U Turns" below the current creek channel. I mean that you can see where the creek used to flow, but was later filled in...

  14. Where is the "Gold Line" when stream takes a "U Turn?"

Hello All, I have been dredging in a tributary of this stream and finding some small flakes and pickers. The main channel of the stream makes a dramatic "U turn" or more like a "V turn" in the river channel. Where should I dredge in hopes of following the "Gold Line" in the sharp turn in...

How does one find the "Gold Line" in a stream using a White's MXT? Hello, I am new to dredging. How do you find the "gold line" in a stream using an MXT??? I have used prospecting mode a little. Online suggestions say to use coin and relic mode. Does finding iron nails or lead put you near...
  17. mx5 discrimination

Hi Mark, In Missouri, the ground minerals really play havoc with discrimination. Try your detector in several locations and see if you get different results. Sounds like a ground balance issue.
  18. How did Spanish explorers mark rivers and waterways leading to treasure?

I have noticed an odd stone structure/natural formation at the forks of where two rivers meet. I have not been able to look at it up close, but it is looks like one of those standing stones or "dolmens" at Stonehenge. Is there any possibility that it was placed there as a marker by the...
  19. 100 year old Swimming Hole to be drained, Where do I start digging???

I accidentally posted twice. Thanks everyone for their info. It is greatly appreciated!!! I will detect around where the 100 yr. old dam had been and report back with any finds. I grew up near this site and I think that due to occasional flooding the coins may be long gone...
  20. 100 year old Swimming Hole to be drained, Where do I start digging???

The creek will still have a small and constant water flow and I predict that over time the silt will be washed away in the main channel, about 20 feet from the bank. It will expose a rock bottom when silt is removed. Will rings, chains, coins, etc. be washed down to sand/rock bars. Should I...
