  1. Dowsing...How does it work?

Very curious. I have seen posts of people providing maps and asking for dowsing on the particular map. Is this a clairvoyant gift? What exactly is the dowsing over a piece of paper? I have seen people use "rods" while walking actual property, but I am confused as to how this works via email or...
  2. How many of you have 2 Go-To rigs?

Hi all! I absolutely love my AT Pro, my favorite by far for recovery, weight and understanding the language. My favorite coil is the 5x8, however, I sacrifice depth with the 5x8. I purchased a NEL Tornado, but switching coils mid hunt is a pain! Which leads me to a separate set up: my ATP and...
  3. Today's hunt at an abandoned Mine

Today proved interesting as it was my first hunt at an abandoned mine. The amount of trash, shell casings and expended bullets made finding anything of relic interest or old coins next to impossible. The structure of what I believe was a storage area for their TNT was just hammered with beer...

  5. Carrying a firearm while detecting

Being an avid and pro 2nd A. Believer, there are many places I want to explore, however, I feel a bit safer with a side arm if you will. Researching many a clues, I am looking at remote wilderness areas out and away from the general public. Licensed to "Own" a firearm is much different than the...
  6. Static with the ATP on Wet Sand

Hi everyone! Looking for some tips as to the static on wet sand using the stock coil on the ATPRO. Hunting on dry sand is no problem but the constant noise on the wet sand is driving my ears crazy. I have tried the following; Turning the sensitivity down Changing frequencies Changing from Pro...
  7. First real hunt with the 5x8 on the ATP

Went out today and swung the 5x8 for about 3 hours. Found my first .925 ring! The separation is awesome and the non existent weight of this coil makes it easy to swing without fatigue. All in all, I'm pleased. Got clad (of course) and some small silver!
  8. Announcement of a mine in 1886

Hi Everyone.... I'm not into prospecting, however, while researching other interests I came across this article of the "Holcomb Mine" at the time of it's announcement in 1886. I have no Idea if this is something that is known or not today, but if in fact it was something that was discovered and...
  9. Angry at Sloppy MDers!

Yesterday after some research I headed out to a very old campsite within sight of a Historical Marker. Once at the campsite, I headed off to a wooded area where I thought perhaps could have been a route that bandits could have taken a century or so ago. I was excited to begin my search...
  10. Just purchased the 5x8 for my ATP

Hi everyone, Been reading a ton about the coils and performance on this thread. A lot has been said in the positive on the 5x8 in terms of weight (Lightweight), balance and better separation. I have only used the stock coil for the last year to really get to know the machine. As far as tones and...
  11. Taking Earthquaked and Floods into consideration when researching....

I am newer to the Hobby and admit, completely addicted. Here is my question to all of you that have been doing this for many years. Do you take into consideration earthquakes and/or great floods when compiling your research? I am researching a family from the 19th century that looked to have...

Hello everyone! I have been searching on the forums on cleaning finds but unsuccessful. I have noticed the actual dig photos then a "Cleaned" photo. 15. Man made Lake hunt

Yesterday went out with the ATP trying out new setting using Iron Audio and pulled up clad along with a 1954 Dime!!!! Woohoo! Using the iron audio helped me distinguish more slaw...or did it? 😳 I'm used to digging everything but the beer tops were getting annoying! Set it in Pro Coin 35 discrim...

  17. Advise on searching an 1891 abandoned property

Hi all! I went to an abandoned 1891 farmhouse last weekend. It was thrashed. Been tagged and ransacked. I found tons of garbage and a few penny's. I ran the ATP along the foundation, by the front porch and around old trees and got a ton of iron sounds and numerical scores bleeping from 12-45...
  18. Understanding Iron Audio?

Hi everyone! I am having a blast with MDing and my newest detector is the ATP. Being a musician my ears are sensitive. I am great with tones and targets, however turning on Iron Audio drives me crazy with all of the "bonking". I like to hunt in 2 different modes depending where I am; 1) Pro...
  19. ATP When to Ground Balance?

Hi everyone, Need some info on ground balancing. I was hunting over the weekend in mountainous terrain and my ATP was constantly chattering to the point of irritation. I'm in Southern California and understand the need to ground balance on beaches due to salinity levels, but didn't think I would...
  20. Great new find!

Okay I ventured out to the mountains and on my first bell ringer at 81-82 I dug this Japanese 10 yen. I was excited as this was a first for me outside of a 70's penny and Quarter and a wheat. Pretty cool. I didn't have enough time to work the area as a friend brought me there as she thought it...
