  1. Have you ever not picked up coins from a Coinstar?

I know this could sound like heresy, but have any of you seen coins in the reject tray and just said, "Nah. I'll leave 'em."? I know that I have on more than one occasion when the only coin in there is a mangled zincoln or 2.
  2. More for my international collection

Finally got something out of a Coinstar (actually this was some other brand) that wasn't just a grungy zincoln or sticky coin. There were 15 $1 car wash tokens and now I just need to find the car wash that uses them. There was also 10 real coins. Mostly foreign (UK, Bahamas, Hungary, Uruguay...
  3. 🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Key ID help please

I got this key in a box lot from an auction a while back and would love to know more about it. I am guessing that it is brass or bronze. It is 6 1/4 inches long and weighs 13.8 ounces. I am thinking something along the lines of a jail key, but I can't find any pictures like it.
  4. Is this ring silver or not?

I picked this neat ring up for a couple bucks and it was advertised as "silvertone", however, it does have a mark inside as well as some possible corrosion. Doesn't really feel like silver. What say the masses?
  5. Thought I might have hit the jackpot

Sorry for putting this here, but there is no "Auction Finds" sub-forum. Lately, I have been picking up odd boxes of stuff from local auctions for dirt cheap prices. I am currently going through the last three boxes that I picked up for a total of under $10. Going through one of them I thought...
  6. Some recent success from an estate auction

I have been picking up stuff at local auction houses and recently one of them auctioned off an entire estate. I picked up a literal truckload of computer and electronic stuff. Most of if because I had an interest on it, but some because nobody had bid on it. The big one in that category was 4...
  7. What is the oddest thing in your collection?

I have been known to find, buy or collect odd things, including a lot of over 200 Catholic religious medals, but what is the oddest/weirdest thing in your collection? Mine may actually be something that came in a lot from an auction that I picked up this afternoon. The lot was 2 myrtlewood...
  8. What type of spoon is this?

I picked up a flatware set at auction today. Not that it matters, but the maker is Yap Kui Kee from Thailand. Not sure of the age of the set and it is allegedly brass. It is a 71 piece set for 12, but it is missing 3 pieces. Not a big deal. Enough of that and on the question. I can identify...
  9. Catholic relic question

Recently I have been picking up odd box lots at a local auction and have found some very interesting stuff. One I recently picked up contains a huge number (well over 100) Catholic pendants of various saints as well as enough crosses and crucifixes to ensure that no vampires get close to my...
  10. Challenge Coin Reference

Anyone have any good tools that they use for tracking down values for various military challenge coins? I have tried eBay comps, but it is hard since some don't show up and others have so many variations that you can't really pin it down. The reason that I ask is that I picked up a box lot of...
  11. ✅ SOLVED Is this a pipe?

Got this in a random lot and was wondering if it could be a pipe. Looks a little small to me, but I am not a pipe expert.
  12. ✅ SOLVED Ulster Defence Regiment pin?

I got this is a box lot from a local auction. It was quite the mix of stuff. This pin, slightly larger than a nickel has a flat tab on the back with a hole through it for mounting. It is currently mounted on the brass plate. The design looks almost exactly like the emblem of the Ulster...
  13. Need ring inscription help

I bought a ring in a box lot at auction and I picked up the stuff today. The engraving inside has me confused. The STERLING, I understand, even thought the ring does not look silver. The rest I don't understand. Does it mean that it is gold plated silver? Thanks.
  14. Can anyone date these figures?

These two small figures have been in my family for many years and according to family lore, they were my uncle's toys. I was hoping to find out how old these are in order to determine if the family lore could be true. They are both marked Japan on the back. The dog is maybe 1 inch tall and...
  15. Common ancestors with random people using FamilySearch.com

I have been using FamilySearch.com for a while as has a friend at work. Using our deceased grandparents, we decided to see if we have any common ancestors. Turns out that we do have a couple common ancestors about 11 or 12 generations back. Thought it was really neat. Anyone willing to post...
  16. ✅ SOLVED Years ago my dad called this a fob, not sure what it really is:

My dad found this while tilling up our garden in NE Massachusetts back in the early '70s. He said that it was a watch fob, but I am not sure. Any ideas? The quarter is put there for scale. I couldn't find my ruler. Doh. Just decided to go looking and apparently it is a watch fob from the...
  17. Thankful coin find

I spent last week with my parents who will be soon entering a nursing home. While there I asked my father if he had anything he needed me to take back home for safe keeping. He told me to go and get 2 lock boxes ofut of his closet. When he opened them up, they were full of various coins that...
  18. Not quite a Coinstar find

The Coinstar at my local Walmart has been out of service for a couple days. Not sure what is wrong. I could volunteer to see if something is clogging it. :laughing7: I did have a find while I was there, though. I found 7 cents in the coin return of the scan it yourself checkout. I try to...
  19. Dan Blankenship passes away

Didn't see this in any of the Oak Island threads. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/the-curse-of-oak-island-legendary-treasure-hunter-dan-blankenship-dead-at-95
  20. Early Coinstar Christmas

I figured that right before Christmas would be a good time to hit the Coinstars hard since lots of people will be turning in their change to get the last little bit of Christmas money. I was out getting food for Christmas dinner and hit the machine on the way out of the store. It blessed me...
