  2. Imperial German service badge

Here's a neat little badge I found at an antique shop today. It's imperial German, dating to the late 1890s, to around 1900. It likely belonged to a soldier in the 40th Fusiliers regiment. The badge is to commemorate the mans service, as the phrase in the flag roughly translates to, "I proudly...

The bells were all found in about a 30x30 yard area, and are made of white tombac. The site was actually my 8th great grandfathers house, as were nearly all the roundballs in the picture.

  7. Liberty Cap Largie and Draped Bust Half Cent! My firsts!

This past weekend, a good friend and I went out to detect a massive cornfield in Central Pennsylvania. A 1700s house was located across the street, and my buddy told me that if I walked all day, I might find a coin, but the odds were slim. He didn't account for my copious amounts of dumb luck...

  10. Cleaning up a holy grail button

I found this button when I was 15 years old, at DIV XL in Culpeper County Virginia. It's one of about 40 known dug examples, and is extremely rare. Confederate staff officers flat buttons with the eagles wings facing upwards were made by one or two local shops in the area. Anyways, I never...
  11. Nice musket/musketoon

I just got this musket the other da, and wanted to see if anyone knew any more about it. It's an U.S. M1816 Remington, with a Maynard Tape primer system. It's not in the best condition, but it's a slick gun. It is cutdown, though, but it doesn't really look like it was done by some farmer after...

Found this nifty little buckle yesterday, just beside my church. The church was built sometime in the mid, to late 1800s. The buckle is about 1.25 in. x 1 in. It's Brass, with small amounts of silver gilt still on it. It seems pretty old.

Not dead, but close to it, eh? :) If I haven't been pulling my hair out at work, I've been to Gettysburg on my days off.

I've had such a strong urge to go down to Virginia to detect lately. My plan is, to use my Thanksgiving vacation this year, to go down to Culpeper county and just knock on doors. If I find a single, solitary bullet, I'll be happy.
