Evening everyone!
Got out of work a bit early and decided to run downtown to see if any of the local freights were due. Hearing two approaching via radio, I rushed to the same spot where I found the case-shot cannonball frag a few years back. (great spot for train pics) I ended up getting...
Now THAT is a business car. Just gorgeous. Most of the time when officers, executives, etc. of Norfolk Southern (which is the line where I am) want to travel or impress clients and whatnot, this is how they usually do it. It's called the OCS; Office Car Special and it's always amazing to see.
I'm actually a fireman in training (no pun intended) on the same little railroad that the diesel I'm running in the pictures works on. And it's no walk in the park either... here's our steamer

The steamer in the picture I took isn't actually old at all as it's a replica built in 2009! Good design though in both pics. Can't go wrong with a good ol' American 4-4-0!
Due to a recent fairly heavy snowfall (for these parts), metal detecting and bottle hunting has been somewhat difficult. So while the ground was blanketed in a nice white layer, I went to the busy Norfolk Southern Piedmont Division not too far from my house and began shooting pics. These are...
That's what I'm thinking John. On the type of switch stand pictured above, a lever is pulled up and out near the base and turned around the pole. This turns the flag at the top, indicating to the crew which way the tracks are aligned, and also pulls or pushes the piece of rail that allows the...
