Hey man, since starting this thread, I go alone often. It's not really scary, maybe the first few times. You should start by going to confluence and just playing around up there. Staking a claim and just jumping into it isn't nearly as easy as it sounds. My prospecting partner and I have been...
What size pieces have you found with the gain turned down like that and the SAT turned up? And that is a good idea, keepin everything out there already! Makes the hike much less sucky haha

Thanks Jim! You sure know your stuff, I'd love the SDC.
I use the smallest DD coils for both the GMT and the MXT.
Question: how much "chatter" do you deem as tolerable? Of course with higher gain/audio boost, there's much less chatter. But with the SAT way high, it does quiet it down a bit...
Ok so i tested some of this stuff today (GMT). There's bedrock at the beach down the street (was looking for lead to practice on) and to run it smoother over this stuff, I turned audio boost OFF, turned sensitivity to around 7, turned the sat speed to about 8, AUTO GB and I was finding .177...
Will do on the swing thing and decrease gain/increase sat, I'll go play in sand with little bits of lead pellets broken up to test it out, only get to prospect on weekends ;) thank you! Detected some yesterday, didn't find anything. So I sluiced and found a few things. Maybe a total of .25 gram...
How do you manually ground balance the GMT? I mostly use it in auto, but when I use manual, I generally just press ground grab

Hey all. So I'm a MXT and GMT user (wanting to learn my GMT better) and I was curious how you folks deal with and better recognize hot rocks?
An area I'm wanting to work is COVERED in hot rocks, and drives the detector and I both nuts, moreso with the sensitivity up. How can I pick out which is...
I have an idea for that bucket trommel. Instead of feeding water into it by hand, there's a water pump you can get that's drill powered... I'd integrate the pump into the cranking handle, pump water AND rotate the material simultaneously

I use nugget busters. Around $160 I think, but they're very nice. Got a .14 GRAIN piece with my MXT with them. Just over a tenth of a grain!

Rutnbuck there are nuggets in utah! But you're gonna need to go out to the desert haha. I'm in NorCal, and honestly the miners did a pretty good job of cleaning most easy spots out. But there's definitely is a lot left! Just gotta get out and find it ;)
If you want a GREAT gold and all around detector... Mxt with the small coil. I have an XLT, MXT and GMT. The GMT is great on small stuff because of the audio boost, but honestly the mxt will almost get all the same stuff the GMT will. The GMT will get the super small stuff a little better...
You can pick up those tiny lead pellets with the MXT, pieces about the size of a sesame seed, but it will only find stuff that small if it's RIGHT under your coil. I'm talkin under an inch
Hey all, I eventually want to move to oregon, and my gold fever is so hot that I HAVE to be very close to gold. I live in the east bay CA, and I drive to auburn CA (gold country) about every weekend. We have pretty awesome gold up here if you're willing to look for it!
What are the hottest...
I use the shooter, I found a VERY small picker with it, 1 GRAIN in weight. That was the first time I took it for prospecting. I've spent over 30 hours prospecting, and haven't found **** after that. But I did find a silver ring and gold cross at a beach/park :)
