  1. ✅ SOLVED Brass clip thingy

Any ideas on what this was used for, and maybe a date range? It's soft brass, easily bendable.
  2. Necklace and key day

We had our club meeting today at a local park. I got there early to grab a table and detected the area for a while. Lots of clad ($8.52), a junk earring, a wheat cent, a bunch of keys, and a couple of necklaces. One is real interesting looking with wire wrapped around a crystal and (probably) a...
  3. A decent day at the beach

Gold would have made it better, but, I'm not complaining. It still amazes me how conditions can change on a beach from one hunt to another. I've detected this beach several times in the past and had good luck there, but, this time I found more silver coins (2 Roosie's and 6 Mercs) than all past...
  4. Pocket watch find

Well, not exactly a today's find, but, I just took it out of a week's soaking in Evaporust today. I found it at a fairly old location and would like to get more info from you watch and handwriting experts out there. I don't see any maker's name anywhere, but, I do see some serial? numbers. There...
  5. Travelling to Minnesota

HI, I'll be in Minnesota next week if anyone wants to get together to detect. I'll mainly be around the twin cities area. I'll have wheels and will be going east as far a Sauk Centre so, I can travel a little bit. I'm not sure which days I'll be available, but, Tuesday to Friday looks open at...
  6. Park, lot, and curbstrip marathon

Hunted most of the day yesterday and I think it's the most coins I've ever found in one day. 292 coins for $17.30 in change. Just 2 wheat cents and no silver, but, I did find an old Ford emblem and a Ford model T valve stem cap. Also found 4 tokens (all modern) a Canadian cent, a 1979 dog...
  7. Park hunting results from yesterday

I happened by a park I'd never detected before. It wasn't an old park, but, as it turned out, I don't think it had ever been hunted before. I ended up with $5.69 in change and the items shown below. The token is just a Chucky Cheese, but, not one I've found before.....and I've found hundreds...
  8. A couple of pretty sights

I went looking for a lost white gold wedding ring a couple of days ago. A real difficult area in the water with long sea grass and deep mud. Haven't found the one I'm looking for yet, but, these two popped up during the hunt. The one on the right is just a gold colored tungsten carbide. Had me...
  9. Silver ring finds

I figured I'd post this here instead of Today's Finds. I found these two silver rings yesterday (along with a few coins and other misc stuff) on a beach that had lost a little bit of sand in a certain area. Looks like these two had been buried for quite some time. They were down pretty deep...
  10. Tiniest silver I've ever found

The Equinox still amazes me with the ability to detect the smallest of objects. The item is smaller than an earring back and still gave out a strong signal in the upper teens. It was over 6" down in the sand too. If you zoom in, you can see the .925 stamped into it. I'm assuming it's a bead for...
  11. R.I.P. Larry

It's with a sad heart that I have to report the loss of a good friend and hunting buddy in Larry Rust. Larry passed away suddenly yesterday. My wife and I have many fond memories of detecting with him and his lovely wife Patti both here in San Diego, and in their home state of Minnesota. He will...
  12. ✅ SOLVED Perforated copper strip

It looks sorta familiar, but, I just can't put my finger on it. It was folded in half when I found it. I straightened it out for the photo. It's about 3 1/4" long (85mm), 10mm wide in the center, and 18mm wide on the ends.
  13. Gold bug redo

Looks like Fisher has come out with a "new and improved" version of the Gold Bug 2. Looks more like a Earl Scheib paint job on the old one IMO. They put in a display and fiddled with some switches is about all. I think the guts are the same or very similar. Oh well, maybe in another 25 years...
  14. I've had a fairly decent month

Mostly beach finds, but, not all. 21 rings altogether.....7 silver and 2 gold. The best is 18K with 11 diamonds in it. Happy hunting everyone!
  15. I guess it's time....

I'm a bit overdue I guess. It takes a bit of effort and I just haven't had the time, urge, incentive, or nagging wife harping on me to get it done. Yup, it's empty the buckets time again. The scrap aluminum and clad coins aren't too bad, but, sorting the brass from copper, and doing the crusty...
  16. Beach whatsit

I normally just throw this junk away, but, it looked interesting enough for me to post it. Metal seems to be some aluminum or pot metal alloy. What is curious is the three little plastic cones attached to the one end. Only one cone is actually attached to an eye on the end of the piece of metal...
  17. The rest of the England finds

Here's a group shot of the finds I had on my last England trip. In addition to the items I already posted, there were a few more interesting finds.....at least according to my export documents. One is my first Saxon find, which is just a fragment. It's called a "harness cheek piece" on the docs...
  18. Spurred and hammered

Here's the last batch for today from my England finds. I first found the large spur piece, then about an half hour later and 100 feet or so away, I found the little piece that fits the big piece perfectly! The hammered coin is a cut half of a 16th century Elizabeth I 3 pence from what the...
  19. Tons 'O Buttons and a few thimbles

If you ever get to hunt England, one thing you will find multiples of are buttons. I've been averaging about 15 a day in my past trips. The ones pictured are only the ones that are either complete, or, have an interesting design on the front. This batch is about a third of the total I found. The...
  20. England finds

Here's some of the more interesting finds I had on my last trip to England. I'll post more as I get the time. I'm hoping someone knows what the hallmarks are on the spoon. Crusader? Red Coat? It seems to be Sterling as I see no plating coming off. It's mainly just dirty. I've got it soaking...
