Managed to slip out for a couple hours this morning and knocked on a few doors. Got a permission on a bare dirt corner yard. Pulled my first V nickel and also 3 war nickels.
The Saint Christopher medal is the smallest one I've ever seen.
The little buckle looks like it was gold plated and says...
I shirked my responsibilities this morning and knocked on a few more doors. After a couple of rather enthusiastic NO's!!!, I got a yes from an old gal with a tiny, gravely, weedy and overgrown yard. Not really sure why I even asked, but glad I did. Took me all of 20 minutes to search the yard...
Got out for a short bit in the morning and got the go-ahead to hunt a tiny front yard of a house built in 1948. Only had about a half hour to look as the owner had hired a landscaping crew to clean up the neglected grounds.
But, I managed to get:
1946 & 1947 dimes
1917 & 1936 pennies
and a 1925...
I'm getting married on the 17th of this month and the ceremony is at my house, so I haven't been able to get out swinging very much, but I just had to break out a little here and there to keep my sanity.
Thursday I slipped out to a little park near my house for about a half hour. I've hit this...
My buddy from the neighborhood wanted to get out his detector after a 10-12 year hiatus, so I suggested we ride into the forest and look for old fire rings from hunters and campers. He wasn't ready when I showed up so I went to the little school across the street from his house to wait.
While...
Got away from family stuff to get in another hunt on the honey-hole. Still producing, for now, but these were all deep targets that I probably missed with the Simplex on previous visits. I'm hoping to get one more hunt in there before I have to head back north.
The Treasure Island casino coin...
Still working my honey hole down south. Didn't have much time to hunt yesterday due to family obligations. Tried a different area where vehicles wouldn't have been able to go as easily, hoping for coins in a little better condition. There actually wasn't much of anything there, but I did manage...
Another good hunt at my honey hole produced some nice silvers and my first Franklin half!
Of course, not shown is a big pile of clad, all from the late 60's and 70's, and about 80 pull tabs (yep, still hoping for gold from this spot).
The cold keeps lingering in northern Nevada, so I headed south to enjoy the nice weather. Got to hunt twice so far with the Legend. Concentrated on an area that I really covered hard with the Simplex to see if I could sniff out any more good targets. Well, whats not in the pics is a big pile of...
I won't bother repeating anything I stated in "The First 20 Hours" post, except this thing seems better every time I swing it. Finally getting a little more used to the dancing VDI numbers and interpreting them a little better.
I finally put it over gold ("Gold from the School" Today's Finds)...
Got permission to detect in one of the local elementary schoolyards. Only had about an hour to look before they locked the gates (yeah, they do that here).
It went something like this:
pulltab vdi28,
pulltab vdi29,
canslaw vdi23,
nickel vdi26,
BLAM! 14k white gold vdi24-25. 5.5g of sweet 14k...
First off, I love the Simplex+ so I really want to see if swinging the Legend is comparatively better. For that comparison, I spent the first 20 hours hunting a few small parks and an old yard permission where I could no longer find anything with the Simplex, Ace 400 and a friends machine (which...

My first outing to learn the Legend was Wednesday at a small park that I've hunted pretty hard all this winter. The soil was the driest I've ever seen it there, so I didn't expect much. Well, I managed $5.33 in clad in 3 hours. Not bad.
I had about 2 hours to kill yesterday evening before...
Thought I'd give my tired shoulder a rest from the detector so I headed out to the desert to see if the winter uncovered any arrowheads. I went to a spot where I've found some nice artifacts in the past, but the last few years it's been discovered by a lot of other hunters and usually...
Supposed to be receiving my Legend on Tuesday so I've been familiarizing myself with the owner's manual.
My question is: does the Legend not have MUTE?
I use a Garrett carrot and MUST use the MUTE function on my Simplex when I turn on the carrot because of the noise. Or does it not make all...
Spent a few hours at a park in the area that I've somehow missed. It was pretty nice out and the park was quite busy with kids playing and lots of dog walkers. I started by finding two spills about 10 feet apart for about $1.50 in clad. Interesting, doesn't appear to be looked out. The clad kept...
I've been getting pretty tired of the cold weather that just seems to keep on and on. I decided to head down to my spot on the Colorado where I've done pretty good in the past. It was also a chance to visit some relatives. I spent the better part of last week there and the weather was perfect...
Had a couple hours to hit a park between errands. First target was a folded pull tab, the second was a ring full of little stones! I could see it was well-made even before I brushed the dirt off. Thought for sure it was going to be gold...Doh! 925. Oh well, way better than pull tabs and clad! I...
Got a permission for an older house in my neighborhood. Kind of overrun with sagebrush and junk, but the site has had 4 houses on it since 1872. The previous houses all burnt down. It looks like the layer I'm into is from 1910-1920 from the relics I found. I spent about 3 hours with the Simplex...
