1-26-23 Find: Roseville

This is a first find of the type variant for me. It is the tool (or knife) variant of the Roseville Type.

It’s broad blade form distinguishes it from the narrower projectile point variant. (See photos)

Fun fact: The metrics for this type is identical to the Morrow Mountain Type II found in states south of New England.

However, Roseville is dated between 1000bp and 2000pb (Middle to Late Woodland period)
The Morrow Mountain Varients of the South are dated between in the 4000bp to 5400bp range (End of the Late Archaic Period.

Very cool. I've been here (Maine) for nearly 4 years now, and I still haven't been able to put my finger(s?) on point types and their identification. Lots of super-rough granite and smooth pebbles, a weird jasper-like rock that breaks as though it would be perfect for knapping... Even the muddy fields of Virginia were easier than this! (disclaimer: I may just be a blind idiot)
