10 1/2 foot auger

[lumbercamp]

I got this auger at an auction. I have no idea what it would be used for. The bit is 3/4" in dia. and the shaft is 1/4". Being 10 1/2 foot long, it seems that when used the shaft would twist and not have much bite into the wood. Any ideas?

Saw something like this on "This Old House" show. Was used to drill holes for running electrical wires without having to open up the walls. Here is a video that shows a how its used.
