Went back to continuing gridding the Cover Crop field for 5 hours. Within about 20 mins I had a bent over short-cross hammered, a bit later I had the near smooth & broken hammered penny. As this was now the 3rd ugly looking hammered's from this field in 2 days, I named it 'Ugly Hammered Field'. However, before the 2.5 hr break point for lunch, I got the better looking James I 1603 Sixpence, which kind of ruined the naming convention!
With spirits high we knew after lunch it is was realistic to guess for 1 more hammered. Nope I got a scarce Roman Silver instead, the only Roman Coin so far. No idea what it was doing in the middle of this field, maybe 600 metres from the Roman Road, but it finished off my 4 silver day very nicely, thanks.:laughing7:

Broken Tudor Button
Medieval Buckle with pin
Medieval Horse Harness Pendant Hanger
Romano-Celtic Bracelet bit
Bent Short-Cross of King John (shame as it was a Northampton mint I need)
Grotty Hammered Penny (no ID)
1603 James I Sixpence (first year of his coinage & a date I need)
Memorial Vespasian Denarius minted under his son Titus in AD80 (Scarce & one we have not seen before):icon_thumright:

Great day of hunting Cru, congrats!

Is that the way the Vespasian Denariuscame out of the dirt?
Got to love getting a crisp looking one-but rare one at that is the best.

Yes, tried some gentle cleaning but it didn't respond, so left it with this reddish/grey/black patina.

Love your posts Crusader, always amazed at the age of your finds. I'm thrilled to find 20th century items, I can't imagine being able to go as far back in time as you get. Hat's off as always!

Another outstanding day for you! I am in awe at the amount of artifacts you coax from the soil. I guess that is the result of people dropping things for one or two thousand years versus a few hundred over here. (Actually about 185 years where i hunt).

Yes, but normally in less than 20% of the fields. Location, location, location....

Beautiful finds as always Crusader. I'm guessing it will take you and CruDad a few days to work through that 1000 acres... I look forward to seeing your future posts. Congrats!
