Whats is the big deal with the 1916 "D" dime?
The 16 D is the most sought after Merc that was produced. The difference between a 16, a 16 S, and a 16 D in value is pretty significant.
16 - $8
16 S - $16
16 D - $3100
values are in XF condition or about what you'd find in pocket change.

Bulltab,

Keep looking, you never know the next target could be the one. I have dug 1909 vdb pennies in the last 12 months both missing the S mint. Happy Hunting

Dug one myself about 2 months ago. Also missing the "D", but took a 1916 D Walking Lib Half Dollar out of the hole with it, so I guess it wasnt all bad !!. Just had the "D" on the wrong coin. Ron

I THINK THE BEST MULTIPLE COIN FIND HAS TO BE A 1900 BARBER HALF AND A 1904 BARBER DIME.I FOUND THEM IN A HUNTED OUT PARK IN RALEIGH,NC IN 1989.LOTS OF HIGH PRICED DETECTORS HAD BEEN OVER IT,I WAS 16 AND USING A GARRETT FREEDOM ACE.BELEIVE IT OR NOT I MANAGED TO FIND QUITE A FEW OLD COINS WITH IT,OLDEST WAS A 1849 LARGE CENT IN VERY FINE CONDITION

Best numbers for multiple finds in one hole for me was 11 wheats. They were stacked. I found them under a tree. In 2001 I found a jar with a little silver and other coins in it. Gotta love this hobby.

The best single hole I ever had was last year at a nearby Baptist church: nine coins including one silver 1950 Roosevelt dime, one 1959 nickle. four wheat pennies and three memorial pennies. Everything was dated between 1940 and 1964.

About 6 years ago I found 92 coins in an area about 3 foot across and up to 18" deep. All were after 1962, no silver, all pennys, nickles, dimes and a few quarters. The site was an old bar, demolished and gone, and the area I was searching was just outside the door under a cedar bush. I assume they kept sweeping it out over a few years.
