Lastnight i was having trouble adding pictures. Im going to post more so you can get a better look. I looked up the farthing and the front of this button has the same exact picture as the farthing, but is made out of silver colored material and is not magnetic. The back looks like the loop was casted into the button when it was made. Also the back side has no imprints or markings, besides what looks like a casting mark. I apreciate everyone helping out.

Now that is cool! One of the neatest finds I've seen in a while, and hopefully more people check it out. If you post it on the Today's finds forum you will get many replies.

What you have is a cast halfpenny (not Farthing) button. It was no doubt created much the same way as the cast counterfeit halfpennies of the period, only instead of casting the obverse, they added a shank.

Thank you iron patch! I apreciate your help and knowledge . I found these about a foot and a half down a vermont Forrest. It was my first real find with my metal detector (besides old nails and aluminum cans and pull tabs) i thought these were a pretty cool find and Ive been wondering what there story was. Thank you for the help, and your advise. I dont spend alot of time on the Internet, but im glad i joined this site. The few people who have helped me out with my question have been great! Its much apreciated

You have a very unique find... well x 2! It's one thing for an old coin that was converted to a button, but much cooler that they were originally created as buttons. And as I said if you post them under Today's finds forum where they will be seen much more, you will get many replies.

Yes, this is a great forum!
