Went back to the same spot as last week. Worked it slow and dug all iffy targets. 1st target was a big designed flat button then I found a horseshoe. It was good luck I guess because I hit stuff after that. 2 suspender buckles( not complete unfortunately),2 more buttons( one with a design ) a knife and some scissors. One of my favorite things was the heel plate. I've wanted one with the heart. Great day to be out. Not too hot and a slight breeze kept the skeeters away. Nice find. Those pewter buttons from that period are tough to find, especially in one piece. Yours is the 1796 style because it has stars above the eagle. The first ones, known as Wayne's Legion buttons, and worn by Mad Anthony Wayne's troops during his 1794 campaign against the Ohio Indians, did not have stars. For more information on these buttons, you can get this book.

Look close at the heel plate. It might have a number stamped on it for size. The one I found is marked 1 1/2 IIRC. Gary

Nicely done one the button and the heel plate.
For being such a common use items they seem to be a less common find. I have only dug a couple in 50+years of digging.
The best example was 13 yrs ago I got one the same as your's and in fine conditions well.
