My oldest find is an 1853 penny. I was detecting in Rolla, MO, in a yard with a 50 year old house. Across the street was the old courthouse built prior to the Civil War. About 200 feet in the opposite direction was an old stone jail, abandoned, built in the 1800's. To my surprise, this 1853 penny was only 2 inches deep! It appears to be in good conditon.

Heck with good condition, I would say GREAT! Nice job. There should be more in a place like that. Go find 'em.

Nice large cent.I haven't found anything that old yet.Actually, I bought that same coin today at a local coin show.Cost me $20.00 for VF-EF.Nice find, now go back and find another one. :)

That's a great looking large cent, Ric. Congratulations. :)

Very nice find!
It always pays to check locations that are that close to older areas. Often times newer buildings (houses) were built on older sites.
There is a small town near me that has an old stone wall with wide stone steps leading up to nothing but grass. On either side of the steps are two newer (1960's) houses.
It turns out that there used to be a church on the site. Several coins from the 1860's and 70's were found there.
WTG!

when ever i see a find like this I can't help but wonder who the person was that lost the coin and what were they doing at the time
Great find. I've only found one thing so far a twenty year old key:icon_scratch:
