It’s not an oddity!

It’s a wonderful, and common form of gold jewelry.

My grandmother had a similar piece and had a dainty chain for it to be worn around the neck.

Nice piece!
Its a British half sovereign gold coin with a gold bezel to have it as a pendant or brooch.
Not a rare coin but still its value is north of $600 plus the value of its bezel.
The Bezel is molded into the Pendant as one.
Was it actually made in 1876?
I did a quick Google search and didn’t find a match?

Found this Gold pendant in my Mother in-laws Jewelry Box. She passed away two years ago and we are going through her stuff.
Its
A 1876 gold pendant, the pictures do it no justice. Much better in person.
Anyone have information about this oddity?
Very Nice!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

if the bezel is soldered to the coin the numismatic value is gone forever...its value now lies on the price based on the weight of gold on a scale..melt value
the bezel looks like it's another shade of gold perhaps indicating a different karat of gold in it

Looking at it with a loop, it appears that it is truly a coin with a Bezel! The color of the coin and Bezel match perfectly. The photos don’t show the color very well.
Thank you Iron

From what I can see in the photos, it looks like the coin could be removed from the bezel if so desired, but, I think I'd keep it that way and wear it. :icon_thumleft:

Coins made into pendants can be done at anytime (so no, not likely 1876), just like the commonly mounted shipwreck cobs. It's more likely someone's birth year.
