Hi all,
Got real lucky this morning when I had 20mins to kill before work. Rang up like a penny for some reason on my nox 800. I couldn't believe it was a Morgan dollar, I thought I would never dig one!
Looks to be dropped in pretty good shape. Not sure I want to clean it
Awesome! I would probably let it soak in distilled water for a few hours then shake it under the water to get the dirt off. I would then gently wipe with a wet cotton ball. I don’t think that would scratch the surface, but perhaps someone has better ideas. Regardless, congratulations on a great find. I have yet to dig one of those beauties.

I've been at this for 31+ years and still have yet to find a silver dollar of any kind, so I am envious and extremely happy for you! I would've thought it would ring in around the mid 30's, so that was odd, but regardless- Magnificent find!!

Thank you, I've been digging under a decade but I what I love about this hobby is you never know what you will find. It was in a very trashy area with lots of iron and junk so something else by it prob gave it those numbers

We're starting to sound like a broken record here, and I'll add another 20 to your 31+.
Every time somebody pops one-it's one less chance of us getting one.

Congrats on getting a big silver dollar when it said penny.
If you don't clean it-there will be micro scratching from the dirt on the face of the coin from just handling it.
Soak, rinse under running water, don't rub.
Read @BuckleBoy's explanation on cleaning up silver coinage.

Will you share with us what type of area were you hunting ?
It was an empty lot in an old area of the city in California. Homeless had been in there previously so lots of modern trash too

I did the rinsing and then the aluminum foil baking soda method. It brought out more details but its very blotchy now.
