Got out for the first time this year and dug a Zippo lighter. I tried find a date for it and it might be 1950’s? Maybe maybe an expert can help me out with its age.

I’m also curious about sending it in to be repaired. I know I’ve read about members doing that before. Just curious what to expect, what they will and won’t do.

Thanks for looking!

i think that's a more recent one, i don't have a date thing anymore.
the older ones had dots on the bottom to date them i think.

if you send it in they will send it back with new guts and your old one/
if the case is damaged they will replace the whole thing

either way they will also send you flint

Sending them in for repairs is not a good idea if you wish it to hold antique value. They usually replace parts rendering collectibility void. Yours looks to actually be in pretty good shape, returning it to new looking would mean replacing parts, they do not remove dents or refinish casings. I have been to Zippo and they actually have a window looking into their repair room so you can watch repairs being done.

Would it have any value if it is inoperable ?

Doesn't Matter if they Replace Both Parts
They send it Back with a New One Included.

If they replace the guts, They rap the Old guts to it with a rubber band.

Either way What you get is your Old one back and a workable Zippo

I Originally Wrote Zippo to ask how to get one repaired .
They sent me a Package which included a Dating Brochure.
the Story On Zippo, a Catalog & one of these.
The penny you will Never spend to have a Zippo repaired :tongue3:
s-l1600.jpg

& a padded Envelope to mail it in.
Though you Really Do have to Pay for Postage.
They are Better then Craftsman . You get to Keep your old one.
You can pull the New guts Back out & put the old one Back in if you want :tongue3:
They never actually Repair. They Replace the Guts or the whole lighter.
you get new, along with your original, As they old ones are considered Collectable

Back when those flints were cheap and available most everywhere I,d put them in the hollow point of a 22 Short rimfire.Shoot them against something hard,at night, made the coolest shower of sparks.
LOL nice !

I used to shoot a lot of muzzleloaders, liked my .54 rifle and pistol. I drilled a quarter inch hole in the top of a .54 minie and would shove a .22 blank in the hole rim out. Could aim at a rock 200 yards away and the puff of smoke from the blank would tell me if I hit it. The flint trick sounds pretty cool.
