Thought the silver streak was dead and minutes from leaving with only a few wheats, got my last deep pop can signal of the day. Not many targets in this area so i dug anyway. Moments earlier i had dug a 1930's wheat, oldest coin i had found yet at this new site. This was at 6"+ and hit hard when it was nearly the size of my coil! Pretty worn but can make out 1880, dont see a mint mark. Thanks for looking. JJ

Who ever had it, pinched it pretty long and hard before they lost it! Nice recovery!

Congrats! Welcome to the silver $ club! Heavily worn or not - SDs are hard to come by.

Congrats! Silver dollars have the reputation for use mostly in bank reserves. Your heavily worn example shows (unless it was a lucky coin carried in a pocket) that they did circulate in some areas.

I really appreciate all the positive responses! I don't post allot but just come back from a break from detecting. Crazy thing is i was really hoping for a Merc or Walker from this sight, this coin post-dates Mormon Trail usage by 30+ yrs and predates any modern usage that im aware of by almost 50 yrs, so im not sure why it was there but a once in a lifetime find for me none the less.

Quick note, i was messing around with a variation of Andy's coin program, 5 tones as called for because i really don't care if i can tell the difference between a Merc and Barber anymore, im digging either way.. but unlike his program i accepted 39-40..Im sure he does this to notch out cans or whatever but this coin repeated multiple times at 39 at the angle and depth it was at and i surely would have missed it.. just an fyi.. thanks again!
