Went back shortly to the yard I found the nice 1796 conder token. I did a new section and I was almost a bust with just a blank large copper. Towards the end I got a nice shallow signal and dug out what I thought was trash at first. What ever it was seemed to have met a lawn mower at some point. I would’ve took a picture of how bad it looked at the beginning but there was no point at the time. When I got home I rinsed it off and seen a big digit. So I put it in really hot water and slowly bent and opened it up to see a big number 81 on it and appeared military. I wrote to Chris for some ID help and he figured military and 1800’s off the bat. He’s going to look into it more for me but it appears to be something with the 81st (Loyal Lincoln Volunteers) Regiment of Foot. Formed in 1793, became the Loyal Lincoln Volunteers in 1832. The 81st arrived in Canada in 1814. In 1821 the 81st, embarked for Jamaica, and served in that island, Nova Scotia, and Bermuda until 1831, when it returned home. It embarked again for foreign service in 1836, and was stationed in North America until 1847. To bad it wasn’t in better shape but im still excited and as of now it could very well be 1821-1831 because that’s the only time they were stationed here in Nova Scotia. Thanks for checking it out guys. Here’s a cuff button from the 81st that was found in the Halifax area in 2013 that dates from the 1820’s may help link it. Button pic on top and mine on bottom for comparison. The number style is exact! [emoji16][emoji106]

Yes a good possibility on the horse rossette. I know this picture here I’ll put is a totally different one and later years but it gets the point across I think to see the comparison...

I contacted a military expert in Britain about what I found and got a response...

“Good day Kevin,

Many thanks for your contact.

As you know it’s not in the best of condition, but it looks like a helmet plate. It looks like 81st Regiment of Foot (Loyal Lincoln Volunteers).

The regiment was in Quebec in 1814 and had a garrison in Canada in 1822 for seven years. So in the area.
