The thinness of the shank on yours would make me think well into the 1800's
cool button!
Most of my early 1800's button finds are pewter.
They are military though.
How did you date that "1700's" button? Its one piece pewter I think but every other detail is gone except for the shank.

That's relative.. I could easily have much more experience in buttons than that dealer.

Wow, hey I'm sorry you don't believe me or my dealer... Just posting my findings and what I know about them. If I don't know I ask.. That is the first thing I did was post it in "What is it?" someone told me a dandy button, so I went and had it checked out! Please don't disrespect me or anybody else.
Also, I had to report the disrespectful and rude comments made by you and 1 other regarding this... I can't believe this is even happening...
