I found this double cameo brooch at a garage sale. It's in 14kt gold. The other piece I do not know if it is gold, but it was free from same seller. The double cameo may be from the 1800s, as it was passed down to seller from gen to gen. Are these any valuable, other than by their gold content? Thanks.

Please do tell me. Aside from the Gold value, I do not know anything of these. I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you. 8-)

Welllll... for one... I believe you have "Salmon Coral" cameos...
So.... their value negates the gold by a long shot if this is in fact the case ... which i would be willing to wager i am.

How much you say ? ? ?

In the right light and setting ... IF in fact they are coral.... (the other being Queen conch shell OR conch pearls,,, which still carry value)..... would be...................

Thank you very, very much for the details, and information. I truly and sincerely appreciate it. I was completely blind about cameos. I've always just looked at them for the gold, but now will py more attention to them. Thank you once gain.

No problem... i got excited for you due to the fact that coral like that doesn't come round often... over my many years i have only had a few pieces myself.

Are there any marking at all ? ? ?

And a picture (macro) of it... and clasp would perhaps shed more light on what you have.

I was only able to spot the 14kt gold marking on the double cameo. I will take another closer look at the clasp and everything else to see if there are more markings. Fingers crossed. Thank you.

ok i think i can make that out now as well... well then that doesnt make them as old.
But...
None the less... check out pricing of similar stuff on ebay solds to get an idea.

Can you look very close (magnification) and make out any sort of "lines" / "cross hatching" ? ? ?
Look at front and back reaaallll close.

BTW,,, They have and do fake coral... with plastic and with glass.

The plastic one is easy to detect... touching to tooth gently can reveal to most... but if this is not an option there is the "hot pin" test....

Straighten a large safety pin... heat till red... then touch BACK side... if it sinks in... plastic.

Nothing... glass or real.

Very cool. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that format before.

Salmon Coral pieces have for some time been on my list of treasures to look out for. I have scored a couple pieces and sold them on eBay. I have a coral bead necklace of a pink color. They call it angle skin coral.
