A little painted/Snapper

This little one was in the driveway a year ago, heading to the bay.
Still had 200ft, a gravel road, 40ft of inclines. So the Mrs did the final trek to help it out.

I met a guy years ago when I was in the mountains of NC that used to catch them by hand. He would walk along the bank with a pole feeling for them. When he felt the shell of on he would pin it with the pole. Then he slid his hand down the pole to the turtles shell. he then felt which way the bumps on the shell were pointing and would grab those suckers by the tail and pull em up. He was missing a finger though....

I know a guy like that,three finger Bob we call him!

My folks brought home a snapper about the size of a quarter when I was a kid. We had great fun feeding him bugs and worms. Had it in an aquarium thing but boy was he stinky. Might be why he "wandered away" while we were at school.

It's that time of the year again the turtles are on the move to lay the nests of eggs.
A little painted along the driveway.
And a larger Snapping turtle that can get up and do some trucking when it wants.

Every Spring we always try to help them across.
I was bringing my car in for service and saw the turtle and thinking of you I pulled over to assist.
Got to be careful though as it seems a lot of people are always exceeding the speed limit.
