A truckload of pennies, my first wheatie & a charm
A friend of mine bought a house in town a couple of years ago and I made it over there this last weekend to hunt it. He also informed me that I could hunt the yard on either side of his as well because they are rental properties and he knows both of the owners. I forgot to mention that there was a house at one time between my friend’s place and one of the neighbors so that gives me a total of 4 houses (well 3 houses and a lot) in a row, in the city, that I can hunt. Pretty good for not having to knock on any doors.
The better of my finds ended up being a TootsieToy truck, 2 bus tokens & a charm. I also found 35 memorial pennies in his neighbor’s yard. I swear that everyone that lived there threw their pennies in the front yard. It was non-stop for quite a while but I had a blast AND I found my first 2 wheaties!!! Well, just one at first but when I was sitting at home with the pennies in front of me I kept seeing a ghost image of what I thought was a wheat cent on the back of another.. I even picked it up once and put it back down thinking that it wasn’t..but it was. The penny in question was a 1930. I don’t really collect coins but I do save wheat cents. I don’t think I ever had a 1930 so that’s pretty cool.
The little dial is from a cheap combination lock and I actually thought I found a nice silver ring at first but no such luck!
I found at least 12 of the “keys” in the empty lot but I have no idea what they were for. Sardine cans or something similar?
I could use some help dating the TootsieToy truck. Although I know that it’s a #4 I’ve been unable to put a date on it. I found only one similar on the Internet but no date was mentioned.
I’d also like to know about the charm. (It’s about the size of a quarter) It’s plated and rusted so I know it’s not real silver but if anyone has seen one please let me know.
I almost forgot about the gold colored ringthing. Is it off of a watch? Not sure on that one either.
