🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Age of Button (i.e., RedCoat where are you?)

Found this cuff sized button yesterday from a cornfield where I have found stuff from the late 18th to early 20th century. The front of the button looks like it has a type of glass; the reverse states, “NON PLUS EXTRA”. I’m thinking Victorian era; any thoughts?

I'm sure others will have a view. My view is that French fashion buttons are tough to date, even when there's a manufacturer backmark. Your mark is just a quality mark used by multiple makers (also seen as "NON PLUS ULTRA" and "NE PLUS ULTRA" with other variations) which essentially means "nothing better".

Those kinds of marks typically began appearing around 1840. From the construction of yours, with the glass insert, I would say it's mid to late 1800s and most probably late... maybe around the 1880s-1890s.
