Got out for some alone time at our local military base. Was just hoping for a pocket of wheat's and maybe a silver or something. Call my son and told him to meet me when he got out of class since the weather was nice for a couple of days.

Started in an area which we have only walked across since it is full of bottle caps and old tin. Started out fast with a nice little silver ring that has a pink stone. A little longer I find a 43-P War Nickle. Not much after that though except a lot of bottle caps and garbage. About 2 hours go's by and with all the rain we have had lately I get a good target which I can see on the surface. I bend down and see it's a Merc dime.

My son arrives and we only have an hour left. I start off letting him dig most of the good targets but these darn bottle caps sound really good sometimes yet we still dig everything just in case. He walks away after about the 20th cap and I get a decent tone which is reading 97/98 on the Deus. I figure its a larger piece of trash or some aluminum since the ground is covered with it. I dig it out which is only about 2-3 inches and see a large rim staring me in the face. I call the son over and ask him to tell me if its a token.......I thought I could read States on the reverse but thought to myself there was no way this coin should be here and it had to be a token. He pulls it out and drops it on the ground telling me I suck!!! I pick it up and I'll be darned. It's a 1921-S Morgan. I could only imagine some service man had it as a good luck piece or pocket piece and lost it back in the day. The base was started around 1942....Needles to say I was happy. :hello2:

After my son had turned and walked about only about 15 feet away and asked me to walk over. There I see his find. A "black" 45 Washington quarter which was also lying on the ground. This was the first day we had more silver than wheat's from this old base.

So all in all, not a bad hunt for about 5 hours!!! This hobby cracks me up. When you least expect it, the coolest find(s) come out of the ground!! :laughing7:

What a haul, I’d be in shock to see a silver that big.
I know what you mean about least expecting it, sure seems like a sick joke sometimes

Right???? It sure has been more of these lately for us......either walking back towards the rig or the old, just one more signal! For awhile there, it was the first 15 minutes I would have a nice one, then nothing for the rest of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats. I’ve only found half dollars, can’t imagine a silver coin that big in the dirt.

Good to see some family time paying off.
