Okay guys, I don't even have words anymore... I found something crazy yesterday, I don't know yet for sure how old this gold ring is but my best estimate is 17th or 18th century. Here are the pics:

And here is link for the video. Video is in Finnish but you can still see better those details in ring and you can see and feel my excitement when I found it :D

Beautiful ring! The scroll work is stunning. I'd like to know how they made the background black. I've never seen that treatment on gold before. Gary

Crusader, I don't know anything about figuring out the age of rings and jewelry. Can you pass on a little knowledge please on what leads you to believe it's 17th century?

What a beautiful ring!

I suspect this is gold 'niello'. It's a a technique developed in antiquity that saw a revival in the Roman period, was highly popular during the Renaissance in Europe and was still being used in Victorian times. After engraving, a paste containing a mixture of powdered sulphur, copper, silver, and lead (with variations on that composition) was rubbed into the relief areas of the piece and then heated at a temperature lower than the melting point for the gold. Sometimes in an open flame. The niello fused into a black enamel-like coating and was polished back to leave a contrasting 'inlay' to the gold. Enamelling ultimately replaced the niello technique because enamels were easier to work with and produced a wider range of colours.

You're welcome. I could be wrong of course. This is typical niello work on the shank of a c.17th Century signet ring.

Firstly the purity of the gold.
The niello workmanship.
Plus experience.
