An excellent large surface find!!!

Hey everybody! It’s been a while, but I was able to get out before a nice thundershower yesterday for about thirty minutes and randomly decided to search what would have been the side of the main road up until 1915. My detector was screaming at me the entirety of the time, and, after my eyes had time to adjust to the fallen foliage, I realized that the ground was littered in large iron (pipes, rivets, large rounded iron chunks). I honed in on one particular piece, cut the roots that had grown through it, and flipped it over. I was greeted to the words RUSSELL. & Co. Massillon Ohio and a large metal handle. I knew what it was the second I saw it and all the metal surrounding it helped me come to the conclusion that I was looking at the remains of a destroyed, possibly exploded, steam traction engine! The piece that I had pulled up was the door to the boiler, which came off of some of the earliest models of steam traction engines that Russell & Co. produced (early 1880’s). Thats really neat reminds me of that hatch they find in the miniseries 'LOST' man I wasted like three years on that show. Really steampunk looking gotta love the big embossed iron stuff cool find!

I live close to Mt Pleasant, Iowa. They have an annual Old Thresher’s Reunion around Labor Day. These old steam tractors are driven in a parade and they put on demonstrations. I’m sure they’d love to see what you found.
