An interesting button.

Here is an interesting button, I am not sure if it is military. It is gold plated I think, any ideas?

It may be an 'R. (Richard) Robinson & Co.' which operated from 1834 to 1848. They made almost exclusively for millitery and state militia.

I can't find that exact backmark in any of my reference books. Going by the raised lettering on a one piece button I would date it no later than the 1820s. In my humble opinion it is a civilian button and a very nice one at that.
