I dug these finds at a former homesite that dates back to at least the 1850s. The knee buckle is my favorite find and is an anchor style buckle dating to the late 1600s to early 1700s per this chart. I have it pictured here next to a shoe buckle that I dug a few weeks ago to show the size difference. The big dandy button was dug close by and has traces of a design remaining. Check out the painting to see a colonial gentleman sporting shoe and knee buckles, as well as dandy buttons. The other dug buttons were in a different section and are later period. The beautiful leaf button retained some gilt and has a backmark that says SCOVILLS WATERBURY in raised letters; I am thinking 1830-1840s? Thanks for checking out my post. Happy hunting!
