I posted this item in April 2019 already. We could not find out what it actually was.
Now I received input from a friend that it could be an ancient protractor.
Does anyone know a source or museum to verify this?
The material on the inside left and right from the tip is worn as you can see.
It has 3 sunmarkings on each side of the tip.

I'm thinking, that the '3 sunmarkings' are simply a foundry/makers mark stamped into the bronze.
With the amount of wear at the bottom and the indentation at the top, I'm thinking it's a 17thc strap buckle.

I'm thinking it's too decorative to be just a utilitarian buckle Charlie.
I'm fairly certain this buckle had an iron tongue as a keeper.

Yeap. Not sure on period, maybe just post-Medieval or late Medieval.
