I went back to my colonial site where I found my first colonial buckles a few days ago, It paid off! I found another buckle, a couple of old buttons that I managed to break when I fell into the ditch and briars that was filled with water (another story of its own), what I believe is a ramrod guide and a really cool button. AND......a cannon ball! Yes my first cannon ball Whoo Hoo ! I am so stoked, and so grateful for my finds!

Thanks for all the encouragement from everyone, and the info on the buckles! I hope to get back to this site, but man it's a rough one! Worth every minute though!

Sounds like you need to get out there to secure the high targets. The rough and tough spots aren’t as safe as they used to be. A lot of newcomers are getting out there armed with technology that leaves little to the imagination. I’ve had signs of new hunters in spots I deemed virtually untouchable (boat trip, hiking, bramble, etc). Suffice to say when they got there they didn’t dig much 😅

This is very true. I had another permission that was for a fantastic, so I thought plantation site, ho we ver unscrupulous detectorists had obviously been there. Frankly I was embarrassed and covered their holes as I found them picked up their trash nd other shit they left behind. I was not happy and made it clear to the person I gained permission from that Ibwas NOT like that.
Please people, cover your damn holes and pick up your trash, you are shameful and jerks- the so called bad apples we have r o dwla wit

Yes you are spot on! I had a permission on a fantastic pl!ntaion site that other unscrupulous detectorists had hit. I ended up covering their holes, picking up their dug garbage and some new stuff. Unreal!
Please, if you are a decent human Please properly cover your holes and restore it so no one can tell you were there. I don't want to lose sites because of laziness or just being a jerks. There is important history to be saved, especially in the areas of the country that are being developed like crazy. Our lowland South Carolina are is basically under seige by developers! Be respectful, Please, so we can get these Permissions!

Lol, me too! I got off balance with the cannon ball and old iron tool I had. Went to step down into the ditch, caught my foot on a vine and of course went over sideways due to being off balance. Splash! Right over into about a foot and a half of water and thick briers, AND of course my phone and car keys were on that side! Thank God nothing got ruined except for a couple of my hard earned Colonial buttons! Damn! But I found the really nice one with a star later! I was probably quite a sight!

Here is a pic of what I am deeming a ramrod guide for a musket. It still had a piece of wood in it! Can someone tell me if I am correct?
