I'll take a swing at it as being a hook patterned after China's Shang Dynasty.
Mouth is unique , in a way.
One of the first I copied style of drawing years ago.
No authority. I won't swear this is Shang , but note the mouth/face vs other dynasties. You might find something closer than my lazy butt!

Square shank into a wooden plank , board or post won't turn as easy as a round shank.
A round pilot hole would still work to help ease installation and reduce splitting potential.

I could agree except for the square nail mount.

Ìt looks pretty rounded off to be a square nail and to mount to anything if it was a nail type mount you would risk wrecking the hook pounding it in.

I'm sure that is not a nail but rather a screw that has rusted to the point of just barely seeing the old thread pattern.....yes a decorative hook of sorts

Not sure. Looks like a square nail to me. This is heavy brass. Plant hangers are usually lighter material.

Fish. Fish! Koi depiction? Carp?
I was looking at too many Dragons.
Dragons have arms. Not all show teeth , but fish lips are depicted different.

I probably shouldn't buy any expensive Chinese artifacts tonight.
