#1 No, but we have a lot of these Gold Dollars

#2 No, the Fed has discontinued all halves.

#3 Are there any particular dates you are looking for ?

#4 Yes, but I am saving them for another customer.

#5 Do you mean 50 cent pieces ?

#6 I just sold all of mine this morning.

#7 You should have been here yesterday.

#8 The other teller has a bunch but she won't be in until tomorrow.

#9 Sir, halves have been discontinued for years.

#10 Yes, how many would you like?(hint: all of them)

Me: Sure Ill take them all
Teller: You have an account with us right?
Me: nope
Teller: Sorry we only have these for OUR customers. We are not allowed to sell to non account holders.

I recently encountered this one. I asked for halves "Do you mean the gold dollar with Kennedy on it?" I could not think of a response to that one.

My favorite so far, just a couple days ago.

"The teller over there does, but she is gone to lunch, and she likes to check them for silver first, we better wait or she will be mad, yeah, we cant." From where I could see, i did not notice any silvers (loose anyways) but if i would have, I still feel a little ashamed at how I would have "raised hell" if I could have seen silver in the tray, and then listen to those tellers tell me why they couldnt sell them to me...

I Get "I don't but she / he does but they are off today" a lot. If it is a local bank I ask when that person works next. I am picking up $500 worth from a teller tomorrow.

I also heard two different reasons banks DO have halves.

#1 - A customer of ours is a teacher and he buys boxes from the fed and then has his kids go thru them in class Huh I asked if she knew what he is looking for... and she said no.

#2 - WF teller tells me that he has a few customers that buy halves because they know they will not be able to carry to much worth on them and spend them. They use them to save from spending to much

If I had a nickel every time i heard oh u just missed them or oh you should have been here yesterday. I would have at least 4 dollars

"We had an elderly gentleman come in this morning, he wanted to cash in lots of old silver dollars and halves. We had to refer him elsewhere; it's our policy not to accept coins with known collector value."

Get an account. Even if it is just a minimal deposit, it will alow you to get those halves you keep missing.

Well worth it.

me: "ill take all that you have"
teller: -laughs- -laughs some more- -laughs even longer- "WHY would you EVER want that many half dollars?!?!?!"
me "im a collector...so i collect coins...like half dollars"
teller: "oookkkkkaaaayyyyyy........but i have a bunch, are you sure you want ALL of them?"
me: "yup...i want ALL of the half dollars you have...i want ALL of them.....not just one or two, i want all of the half dollars you can sell me...ALL of them..."
teller: "ok, that'll be $2.50 please" -lays 5 halves on the counter-
me: -sigh- "heres $3"
teller: "you want 2 quarters back?"
me: (naw, i want you to rip a one dollar bill in half and give half to me...ok?!?!) "yes please"
teller: -gives me the goods- "have a nice day!"
me: "thanks, you too!"

teller: (w/o hesitation, and doesnt even check) "NOPE! we dont get half dollars very much, because they are worth more than 50 cents, so people save them"

also, every time i go to certain banks, they will ALWAYS say the exact same thing:

me: "gimme yo halves!!!"
teller: "i dont have any right now, but keep asking every once in a while, we get them in here and there"
(yup...thats exactly what i AM doing...thats why i just asked you...and thats also why i HAVE asked you every F'ing day for the last 3 months )

The ones that I hear that make me want to reach across and deliver a shakeing:

"What's a half dollar"

"Sorry we don't carry forign coins"

Me "hello I was wondering if you had any half doll-"
Her "no we don't ever have any of those"

"Ok would any of the other tellers have any or maybe the vault"
Her"no sir we don't and we don't ever get any either"

Next teller over: "I have $47.50 if you want some"

Me "........."
"Yes please I would love them"
