Dug this tag this morning. The tag appears to be made of brass or possibly copper. Did some googling and could find no similar images. Did find a Pitts Agricultural Co. that made farm implements in the mid to late 1800's. The company later became Buffalo Pitts. Would appreciate any help in positively identifying the tag and what it might have been attached to.

UPDATE: I have reached out to a historian very familiar with the Pitts and Buffalo Pitts ag-equipment and he is not familiar with the tag or any examples of use of such on their equipment.
Having found the tag in close proximity to Pittsburgh, PA, I'm now thinking it could be an early example of the livery carriage/vehicle (license) plates required for all residents or vendors driving vehicles on the city streets. These tags would have been valid for the year of issue.

I have yet to find another example like this cast plate this but there are images of later issues that appear to be stamped metal including: PITTS, an issue number and a year. Again, I'm only guessing so any help confirming would be appreciated.
