Hi Everyone,

Well spring is here and I'm thrilled to be able to get back out there and start detecting again after a horrible winter here in MA.? The other joy of spring is spring cleaning and a friend of mine who recently bought a house found this in the basement.? I'm not sure if this is a barometer or some other kind of ship item.? There's liquid in the middle that I think is mercury.? It's quite old looking.? On the face is a lot of numbers and the words Bergen Nautik and Bergen Norway.? It sits in a wooden box with a glass cover.? Can anyone help us out at all?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Sammy, From what I can see on the pics, it is a compass for navigation. Most likely from a ship.
The names Bergen Norway is most likely the place where it was made. That would be my guess.
It looks like it's in really nice shape and if I were you, I woulld take it to a collector and check out the valule. Just for curiosity.
