Hi thank you in advance for your help. And Happy Sunday. I am trying to find more information on this antique decanter. It does have marks under the handle. What I could make out that it was made around 1887 in Birmingham by Frederick Elkington and has the silver mark of the lion? I’m trying to find like this and cannot come across anything like it? Was it used for wine, water or liquor? And I have read that back then they used gold flakes to give it that red color? Beautiful silver grape design. I’ve never seen one like this. It’s 12 inches tall.any help is appreciated. 18B91F08-AC65-487E-A5B6-8454F2849207.jpeg 696E0662-097D-446B-9EFC-D8C353252B6C.jpeg FAA1C272-5079-4476-A6BA-25DAD15042DC.jpeg 4FC7CCBA-602B-4678-913B-DC19FAF108A6.jpeg F756E15F-C43D-40AD-9874-D09AE04BAF16.jpeg 2B51A5D4-7978-4E28-9A20-FC474C50FF80.jpeg

Nice thing. It's a claret jug.

Your reading of the hallmarks as Sterling silver, Birmingham Assay 1887 is correct, but I'm not convinced that the maker is Elkington. That last mark isn't clear from your picture. Any chance of a sharper image?

This is the closest example I could find. Here the Elkington mark is unmistakable:

This one has a "Buy it Now" fleabay price of $1,250 (or make an offer). Unrealistic I would say, but nevertheless very comfortably in an upper three figure valuation.
