I'm in Maryland. We have copperheads here with a side order of Timber Rattlers, but those are few and far between. Get a satellite phone. The sucking the venom out thing isn't especially effective.

I grew up in the mountains of Central Pa. around Harrisburg. Copperheads were common. We were Scuba Diving at Lake Raystown in Pa. We were down on a rock ledge around 20’ and noticed a couple of large mouth bass attracted to something , swam around a large outcrop and there was a huge water snake swimming down along the rocks into the dark water beneath me. Scared the sh!t out of me. Last thing I was expecting to see. I didn’t know they went that deep.
And the Cottonmouths down here in Fl. are nasty but we really don’t see many of them in our travels

Check out CCIs Big4 shot shell for larger critters , in my 1st 2 chambers followed by 3 Buffalo Bore Heavy 357mag rounds for the hogs.
On the news this morning there was a segment on the Pythons migrating north into the Orlando area.
They have devastated the Glades last time we were down zero wildlife, ………..nothing………everything is gone. Heartbreaking……..

The chances of being bit by a Coral Snake are extremely rare. Their mouth doesn't open very far which prevents the snake from typically biting a leg or such. The only bite that I have heard of was in the web of the hand between the thumb and index finger. Fingers and children have risk. The only ones that I have encountered was flipping slaps of rock. Which could be encountered by prospectors.

I have never worn gators but do wear boots and watch the ground like a hawk.

Above all I reflect on the words my late Father taught me.

"Don't be scared of any animal in the wilderness except for the two legged kind"

I used to canoe into the freshwater area of the Everglades near Collier Seminole State Park. I was young and poor but the abandoned canals from an old tomato farm held huge bass. I put corrugated black plastic drain pipe on my legs from ankle to knee. Slice it down the middle and spread it open, snap on legs, good to go. You have to be skinny but it works. Gators and snakes were everywhere.

I agree creskol, you have to stand your ground with these varmits, same with alligators, bite them back also! 😂

Only advice that I could not follow is the one in regards of cell phone range, sometime areas that we visit are out of cellphone range. And are the good spots

I read that once we got home and did research, I couldn’t remember if the red touching yellow saying was correct. It wasn’t aggressive at all, but he blended in really well. It was right in the middle of the trail.
I agree about the 2 legged ones, we have some real winners down here in Fl. Cops just killed some nut in a shootout that was living in the State Forest west of us last week where we camp a lot.

If we’re in snake country we where snake gaiters. What I like about gaiters and a good pair of waterproof boots is View attachment 2106458 how you can walk or plow thru thick brush and thorns with no problem of getting torn up.

You are right, when I dress snake gaiters, I feel like I’m all terrain, acceding and traspasing crowded thorn bushes
