Any Button Experts?!

Hi all,

I have an interest in this button, but I am unsure of it’s age or really any information on it. I tried to get a hold of the Albert’s book, but no such luck. Can anyone give some insight into how old this piece is?

Fecheimer Bros. & Co., Cincinnati, OH. Abraham and Marcus Fecheimer began as clothiers in 1853 and lasted into the 20th century. The backmark is on post civil war buttons. Name also appears as Fechheimer. They did not make the button. They gad their name put on it by the button maker. Maybe, with a little more research the maker can be found.
I can't tell you how long after the war the button was made.

A little more research tells me that Scovill and Waterbury made buttons for them.

I did research on the design, which is the state seal of Nevada. Based on the info I found online (and listed below), you can narrow it down to 1866 to 1929. Not great, but it's a start.

The design for the state seal of Nevada was officially and finally adopted on 24 February 1866. Early reproductions of the state seal showed the locomotive's smoke trailing behind it, and the smoke from the mill drifting off to the right. The design was again changed in 1929, when it was decided that both plumes of smoke should trail off to the left.

Thank you friend! I have since done some research on the company and found that they formally established their name as put on the button in 1883. So now we’re down to 1883-1929.
