A Rock?

Why do you want to know what it is, what about it makes you think it's special??

Solution
That’s hematite. It’s fairly common here in the Central IL glacial till. It comes in different grades. The best comes from deposits in MO. The glacial is lower quality. The Indians occasionally made celts from it, especially the MO stuff. I made a celt from the glacial stuff. It will take a very high polish. I can see why you picked it up. Not your everyday rock.👍🏻

That's a nice chunk of clean hematite.
They make pretty jewelry, decorations, carvings etc.

Once after a big rain I found a piece on the top of the ground that was completely polished and shiny.
Figured it was a worry stone.
You made a Nice find.
