Found this little ball… made of Lead, weight 15 grams… approx 1 cm pics show on cm scale mat. Found in the Uk in a field, Roman pottery site near by, also near English civil war action, there was also a priory in the next field over. So a historically active area!! TIA x

Molds /Moulds can be made from multiple materials. With repeatability desired a big influence.

Your piece seems to show a casting sprue like most conventional cast bullets.
How the mold was cut in such a case would be interesting to know.
Steel cutting tools vary between shapes of course when making a mold.
But even in softer materials , good dimensions take serious effort.

Anyways , my usually vivid imagination begs a researching into odd roundball designs in the history of your region , or of regions involved in the one the recovery was made in. Makes no sense to me as the force of loading and science of sealing the rear of a projectile against barrel walls in small arms doesn't want gaps pressure can blow past.

I can imagine someone repurposing a worn out or damaged or of no other use bullet mold to make buttons. Or just making a similar type mold to do so.
The design hints of being visible in use. Compared to hem or cloak weights ect.

Possibly a type of ball from a Brunswick musket. Called a "belted bullet", I believe. It was an attempt at making British infantry weapons "rifled" for better accuracy. Circa 1840.

However, it was difficult to load and had a short lived military career.

I thought the same thing initially but the 15g weight is only about half of what a belted ball should be so I abandoned the idea....now unless there were smaller versions I cant say it's a bullet for sure.
